Are the New England Patriots potentially targeting a new backup quarterback for Tom Brady in this weekend’s draft? If a new report stating that the Houston Texans are looking to acquire incumbent Ryan Mallett is proven to be the case, the Pats would certainly be in the market for some QB help.
A source tells me Ryan Mallett to the Texans may soon be done.

The 6-foot-6 Mallett was picked by the Patriots in the third round, 74th overall, of the 2011 Draft and became the second stringer after Brian Hoyer was released in 2012. His departure could clear the way for the Patriots to snag a new backup — and potential successor — to Brady.
The team has been taking a close look at QBs leading up to the draft and we’ve certainly noticed. The Patriots have shown interest in at least 12 quarterbacks since their pre-draft work began following the 2013 season, a surprisingly large number. Here are a few possibilities of who may be on their radar.
