The Patriots made a series of transactions on Thursday as the team continued to tinker with the bottom portion of its roster ahead of OTAs.
The team signed defensive back Daxton Swanson, a second-year player, and defensive lineman L.T. Tuipulotu, a rookie free agent out of Utah. The Patriots also released former Rutgers defensive back Jeremy Deering, who signed as a rookie free agent with the team on May 16, and wide receiver Greg Orton, who had been on the Patriots’ practice squad in 2013.
Swanson (5-11, 191 pounds) had stints with the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers out of Sam Houston State, where he holds the record for most career interceptions. He was released by the 49ers on May 12.
Tuipuloto (6-1, 298 pounds) finished his senior year at Utah with 42 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and three fumble recoveries.
