Report: Aaron Dobson Will Play In Patriots Preseason Finale vs. Giants

Who says the preseason finale doesn’t matter?

It matters a great deal for Patriots wide receiver Aaron Dobson, because he is expected to suit up tonight against the New York Giants for the fourth and final preseason game, according to Jeff Howe of The Boston Herald.

This will be the first time Dobson suits up for the Patriots this preseason, after missing the first three preseason games.
Dobson had been sidelined by a stress fracture in his left foot. Earlier this offseason, Howe also reported that doctors inserted a screw into Dobson’s injured foot. He was strictly doing conditioning drills during the first two weeks of training camp, and didn’t begin participating in practice until Aug. 11. Even then, he was participating in a limited fashion, and was held out of team drills.
The Patriots slowly increased the workload for Dobson up to this point, and the team feels the time has come for him to take the next step and participate in live action. He traveled with the team to New Jersey, according to the report, and the Patriots have planned all week for him to participate.
With a logjam at wide receiver that includes Brandon LaFell and Kenbrell Thompkins competing for snaps on the outside, Dobson needs all the reps he can get.
Even if Dobson only plays a little against the Giants, the fact that he is active and suiting up for this game is a positive sign that he could be ready for the season opener in Miami against the Dolphins on Sept. 7.
