Tom Brady On Wes Welker’s Suspension: ‘As A Friend, You Always Hope The Best’

FOXBOROUGH — Tom Brady and Wes Welker’s time as teammates may have come to an end, but the friendship between the two has not.

The Patriots quarterback was asked to comment on the Broncos receiver’s four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Brady initially hedged, but offered some thoughts anyway.

“I don’t have a lot of thoughts or comments on that,” Brady said Wednesday at his press conference. “That’s Wes’ situation and their team. Obviously, I got plenty to worry about with this week and this team. As a friend, you always hope the best, but it’s not friend time, this is opponent time. My focus is on the Dolphins.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Albert Breer both reported that Welker’s failed drug test was a result of amphetamines. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported that the suspension was for using Molly cut with amphetamines at the Kentucky Derby in May. Brady was in attendance with Welker at the Kentucky Derby, and was asked if he had seen Welker take anything.

“I got no comment on that,” he said, laughing.
