Once again, sports radio dominated the fall Nielsen Audio ratings in the Boston market, with 98.5 the Sports Hub finishing first (13.1 share) and WEEI second (8.8) in the important men 25-54 demographic for the period of September 8-November 30.
In morning drive (6-10 a.m.), more than a quarter of the Boston radio audience was typically listening to one sports station or the other. The Sports Hub’s Toucher & Rich program finished first with a 14.8 share. WEEI’s Kirk and Callahan program finished a strong second (12.5) in its first full book since the departure of longtime co-host John Dennis in August. WZLX’s Karlson and McKenzie was a distant third behind the sports programs (7.0)
In midday (10 a.m.-2 p.m.), The Sports Hub’s Zolak & Bertrand program was first with an 11.7 share. WEEI’s Ordway, Merloni and Fauria show came in third with a 7.9. WZLX’s Carter Alan-hosted program took second at 9.1.
In afternoon drive (2-6 p.m.), The Sports Hub’s Felger & Massarotti show reigned for the 17th straight ratings period with a 16.4 share. WEEI’s Dale & Holley’ program, which featured Jerry Thornton as a third voice during most of this period, was second with an 8.8. Thornton left the station to return to Barstool Sports on November 18 and was replaced by Sports Hub defector Rich Keefe. Dale and Holley finished significantly ahead of third-place Magic 106.7 (5.4), which currently is billed as Boston’s Christmas station.
From 6-11 p.m., The Sports Hub, which airs The Adam Jones Show and Bruins and Celtics games in that window, was first (11.1). WEEI, features host Mike Mutnansky at night, was second (9.0). Keefe left Jones’s show for Dale and Holley, debuting this month.
