Mike Tirico to take over as studio host for NBC’s Sunday night football

He replaces Dan Patrick, who hosted the program for 10 years (2008-17).

Mike Tirico will be the studio host for NBC’s “Football Night in America’’ program this season.

He replaces Dan Patrick, who hosted the program for 10 years (2008-17). Patrick, who turned down a long-term contract extension to stay, announced he was leaving the show in April.

Tirico, who hosts most of NBC’s major sports broadcasts, including the Olympics, horse racing’s Triple Crown, and major golf tournaments, had spent the past two seasons as the on-site host for Football Night in America. He is also the play-by-play voice of NBC’s coverage of Notre Dame football.

In his new role, he we will work with holdover analysts Rodney Harrison and Tony Dungy and “NFL Insider’’ Mike Florio from NBC Sports’s broadcast center in Stamford, Conn.

Liam McHugh will take over Tirico’s role as the host at the site of the game. McHugh is NBC Sports’ lead studio and on-site host for the NHL and Notre Dame football.
