More on Alexander
With outside linebacker Matt Chatham one of seven inactive players for the Patriots, the team had a void on special teams. Hence the signing of linebacker Eric Alexander off the practice squad.
To make room for the 23-year-old Alexander, the Patriots released offensive lineman Gene Mruczkowski.
The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Alexander spent much of the 2004 season on the Patriots’ practice squad, before being signed to the active roster on Dec. 20. The Louisiana State product played in three games and recorded two special teams tackles before being placed on injured reserve Jan. 13.
With the regular defense, Alexander plays middle linebacker. He provides depth behind the top two players at the position, Monty Beisel and Chad Brown.
