Ups and downs
Who’s up, who’s down for the Patriots?
Up:
Tom Brady –- Finishes 22-of-27 for 350 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. His passer rating: a sparkling 140.4, the fourth-best of his career.
Daniel Graham –- Tight end totals five receptions for a career-high 119 yards and a brilliant 45-yard touchdown in which he displayed the speed and power that makes him a unique –- and previously underutilized –- talent.
Deion Branch –- After a one-catch effort against the Chargers, he totals a game-high eight catches for 107 yards, including a big grab on third down of the winning drive.
Corey Dillon –- Totals a season-high 106 rushing yards on 23 carries -– for a 4.6-yard average.
Patrick Pass/Larry Izzo –- Both tie for the team lead with three special teams tackles apiece.
Down:
Benjamin Watson –- His one 33-yard touchdown catch aside, he committed three penalties (two pass interference, one false start).
Duane Starks/Asante Samuel –- Not a consistent game for the corners –- Starks had at least one interception slip through his hands, and Samuel wasn’t his usual stingy self.
Monty Beisel/Chad Brown –- Middle linebackers were driven off the ball –- Beisel finished with three tackles and Brown two.
Team discipline –- Committing 11 penalties –- four of which came in the fourth quarter –- is a prescription for future problems if not corrected.
Looking ahead, we’ll plan on filing our next update Monday after Bill Belichick’s press conference (11:45 a.m. EDT).
