Bruschi back in middle

The Patriots wasted little time inserting Tedy Bruschi into the middle of their defense at practice.

Here is a snapshot look at what took place during a small segment of the team’s workout today:

After stretching and special teams work, the defense split into two groups -– linebackers and linemen in one group, and defensive backs in the other.

The linebackers and linemen worked on a front-seven drill and Bruschi was paired with Mike Vrabel at inside linebacker. After that pairing, Bruschi took snaps next to Monty Beisel at inside linebacker. In both cases, he worked with players who are regular starters.

Bruschi was also part of the kickoff return unit.

A pool report will be submitted, with comments from Bruschi, after practice. We’ll plan on passing that along when it becomes available.

Also, defensive lineman Richard Seymour returned to practice today. He was paired on the defensive line with nose tackle Vince Wilfork and defensive end Ty Warren during the front-seven drill.

Running back Corey Dillon, outside linebacker Willie McGinest and receiver Troy Brown weren’t at the portion of practice opened to the media.

Looking ahead, we’ll have more to come later in the day.
