Cowboys-Giants preview

Tonight’s game

When, where: 8:30 p.m., MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, N.J.

TV: Ch. 7.

Line: Giants by 3½.

Last season: Giants won, 37-34, in Week 14 and 31-14 in Week 17.

Of note: When we last saw the Giants, they were being feted through falling confetti inside Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The defending Super Bowl champs will unveil their title banner in a pregame ceremony. When we last saw the Cowboys, they were being embarrassed at MetLife Stadium in Week 17, falling behind, 21-0, at the half in losing a winner-take-all matchup for the NFC East title and last remaining playoff berth. They wouldn’t have been in that position had they not coughed up a 12-point fourth-quarter lead to the Giants at Cowboys Stadium in early December, a loss that sent Dallas spiraling to an 8-8 finish. The QBs played to a draw, in last year’s matchups, with Eli Manning totaling 51 completions and five TD passes to Tony Romo’s 50 and six. The difference was made by the Giants’ pass rush, sacking Romo 12 times. Defending champions have won their last eight openers the following season.
