Osi Umenyiora will probably leave New York Giants

Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora told reporters on a conference call that he will most likely be playing for a new team next season after his contract with New York runs out.

“Is there a high probability that I am going to be playing somewhere else?’’ asked Umenyiora. “I would say there is a high probability, and that is just me being honest.’’

Umenyiora signed a seven-year, $41 million contract in 2005, a deal he restructured before this season started. The 31-year-old has played 10 seasons in New York, and this year he has six sacks and four forced fumbles in a reduced role.

The defending Super Bowl champions need to win at home against the Eagles Sunday to even have a chance at making the playoffs. Minnesota, Chicago, and Dallas would all have to lose for the Giants (8-7) to sneak in.

Manningham done

San Francisco receiver Mario Manningham will miss the regular-season finale, the playoffs, and possibly much more after tearing the ACL and PCL in his left knee, according to multiple reports.

Manningham hurt himself in Sunday night’s 42-13 loss at Seattle, a game that put a potential 49ers NFC West championship in jeopardy.

The five-year veteran has only 449 receiving yards and one touchdown reception in 10 starts this season, but he has had a knack for big playoff catches. His 38-yard reception against New England in last year’s Super Bowl was a key part of the winning drive for the Giants.

San Francisco needs a win against the Cardinals or a Seahawks loss against the Rams to clinch the division.

Bengals make moves

Cincinnati placed first-round draft pick Dre Kirkpatrick, a cornerback, on injured reserve and acquired wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher on waivers from Chicago.

Kirkpatrick, the 17th selection in the 2012 draft, has been sidelined with a knee injury. He played in five games this season, with two tackles on defense and two on special teams.

Sanzenbacher was released this week by the Bears. He played in five games with one catch for 7 yards this season.
