It took Twitter mere minutes to reach the same big takeaway about Tom Brady’s four-game suspension: He was penalized twice as harshly as Ray Rice initially was for an alleged assault on his fiancee.
Rice was eventually suspended indefinitely as the scandal around the case grew. Brady’s final penalty may change. He has three days to appeal the NFL’s ruling.
But the judgment of people on Twitter may be unwavering. Here are some of the immediate responses Monday:
Ray Rice - 2 games Tom Brady - 4 games Just let that sink in.— Only In Boston (@OnlyInBOS) May 11, 2015
Makes perfect sense that Tom Brady's suspension for deflating balls would be twice as steep as Ray Rice's initial penalty for wife beating— Devin Gordon (@Devingo913) May 11, 2015
For the record, and let's remember this: Brady's "maybe he knew about it?" suspension is twice as long as the original Ray Rice suspension.— Ken Tremendous (@KenTremendous) May 11, 2015
Ray Rice: Video proof. Suspended 2 games. Tom Brady: "more probable than not" he was "generally aware". 4 games, $1M fine. Seems legit.— Richelle (@RichelleSue) May 11, 2015
So Goodell screwed up with Ray Rice and now makes the Patriots pay. What an asshat #freebrady— Jen Marks (@jenmarks15) May 11, 2015
Initially when Ray Rice was caught beating his wife: 2 game suspension. Tom Brady knows of balls being deflated: 4 games. Come on Goodell...— Shelby Stumpff (@ShelbyStumpff) May 11, 2015
"Take whatever suspension we gave Ray Rice and double it," seems to be Goodell's thinking...— Andrew Rafferty (@AndrewNBCNews) May 11, 2015
