On this night, Tom Brady is free.
A day after appearing in federal court, Brady started at quarterback for the Patriots in their first game of the NFL preseason on Thursday night at Gillette Stadium. In a brief appearance spread over two drives, Brady completed one pass for 10 yards on four attempts.
Leading up to the Patriots’ preseason opener, it was unclear if Brady would actually take the field against the Packers. He was in U.S. District Court in New York on Wednesday for a settlement conference with the NFL in his continued battle to overturn a four-game Deflategate suspension.
But when it came time for the New England offense to take the field, it was No. 12 under center instead of back-up quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
The crowd approved.
