Tom Brady didn’t let out a single audible swear word on Tuesday. That’s a quiet practice for him, as Brady spiked his helmet on the second day of training camp, and screamed throughout last Friday’s scrimmage.
Saints safety Roman Harper seems to have noticed Brady’s quiet demeanor.
“This is the most chill I’ve seen him in practice,” Harper said Tuesday. “I talked to him for a little bit and he said, ‘I’m just just grinding, man.'”
Harper practiced against Brady during training camp in 2015 when the Patriots and Saints linked up for joint practices before a preseason game this time last year. The biggest difference from last year, of course, is that Brady has accepted his four-game suspension for Deflategate. Harper gave his best effort to chill New England’s fury over the ball-deflating scandal, as Harper was with the Saints as they went through Bountygate in 2012.
“I’ve been there. I’ve been with a team that’s been suspended. I’m sure Patriots fans are upset, but everything’s gonna be the same in the end. They’re going to be fine,” he said. “They’re going to make the playoffs, and then everybody will be talking about them in the top five teams in the league, and everything’s going to be the same. [Brady]’s just got to do his time. And when he’s out, they’ll be just fine. And I’m sure Patriots fans will be sad, and I saw the ‘Free’ whatever. It’s just a part of the deal. You guys will be just fine after a month, and then everybody will be back on your horses.”
