With Antonio Brown released and James Develin out with a neck injury, the Patriots used the open roster spot to promote German fullback Jakob Johnson from the practice squad on Saturday.

Johnson will join the 53-man roster for his NFL debut on Sunday against the New York Jets. The 24-year-old grew up in Germany, played college football at the University of Tennessee, and suited up for the Stuttgart Scorpions of the German football league last year.

Via the NFL’s International Player Pathway program, Johnson signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in the offseason. He was released during final roster cuts but went unclaimed and signed with the Patriots practice squad.
