Tom Brady announced that he will not return to the Patriots. Before the decision was made public, we asked Boston.com readers for their message to the quarterback. Most of you wanted Brady to stay, but some fans anticipated his departure.

“Tom Brady I am your number one fan! I’ll follow you anywhere you play. There’s no football without you on the field.” —Toni Moore

“Whatever you decide for your future, I’ll always be a true fan. You are the GOAT and always will be. You will be missed terribly if you choose to leave but in the end it’s YOUR choice.  Do what you need to do. Your true fans will stand behind you or follow you on to a new team.” —Crystal Hotham

“Bill Belichick never provided you with all the weapons you needed and often when he tried to do so through the draft it never worked out. You deserve the same weapons as every other QB. Bill Belichick wanted Jimmy (Garoppolo) and it’s now time for you to join an organization where you will be surrounded by offensive players that enable you to win another Super Bowl. Go West and thrive. Show Kraft and Bill Belichick the real reason for 6 SB victories.” —Anonymous

“The Patriots will never give you a long and guaranteed contract so maybe it’s time for you to move on. Thanks for what you have accomplished, it was a great ride. Good luck with the new team.” —Gabriele Rabboini

“I wouldn’t go so far as to say TB is the GOAT. Would he have 6 SB rings if he played for Cleveland or Miami these last years?…Brady is an arrogant, privileged, and conceded man. Gets treated like a baby during games. Practically gets spoon fed, burped and pampered! When a grown man squeezes water is his mouth for him to drink, that says it all…They carry his helmet for him coming out of the locker room before and after games. Why not give him a piggy back ride so his cleats don’t get dirty!!” —Keith Martin

“Please don’t go. My daughter is 2 years old and loves to watch football, but especially the Pats and Brady. Here favorite cheers are Go Pats! and Go Brady! In fact these are the only 2 cheers she knows and she will sometimes say them when other teams are playing as well, please don’t go!” —Anonymous

“A simple Thank You. For being a true role model in the modern day and age of media. You show true class, poise and grace in winning but more importantly when in loss. It shows young and old alike what it means to be accountable and be a leader. Your Mom and Dad can take great pride in the man they nurtured to be the husband, father and greatest player the league has ever seen.” —Anonymous
