New England will likely be without its starting goalkeeper for most of July.

The Revolution will have to find a way to continue getting results without the services of goalkeeper Matt Turner and forward Tajon Buchanan in the coming weeks after both were called into their respective national teams for the upcoming 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Turner, 27, was — as New England manager Bruce Arena expected — included in the U.S. roster for the tournament. Buchanan, 22, also made the cut for Canada.

The two Revolution teammates might even face each other in the group stage, as the U.S. and Canada are both in Group B along with Martinique as well as one of the to-be-determined qualifiers from the competition’s preliminary round.

Turner, who recently won MLS Player of the Week for his dazzling performance in a 3-2 win over New York City FC, has recorded one start for the U.S. team in a January friendly against Trinidad and Tobago. New England’s keeper oversaw a comfortable 7-0 win in which he also saved a penalty kick.

Buchanan also made his senior national team debut in 2021, featuring in a 7-0 win over Aruba in a World Cup qualifier. In addition, he played for the U-23 team in its failed effort to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, scoring a pair of goals in a 2-0 win against El Salvador.

The Revolution will have both players available for the team’s next game on July 3 against the Columbus Crew. The Gold Cup begins on July 10, running through the final on Aug. 1. The last edition of the tournament, held in 2019, was won by Mexico.

In the meantime, New England will continue its march through an occasionally crowded summer schedule of league games. Following Saturday’s clash with the Crew, the Revolution will face five more games in July. Depending on how well the U.S. and Canada do in the tournament, New England could potentially be without Turner or Buchanan for that entire time.

The Revolution’s next home game will be on Wednesday, July 7 against Toronto FC at 7 p.m.
