After sustaining a particularly brutal hit against the 49ers on Sunday, quarterback Tom Savage of the Houston Texans returned to the game right afterward. Former New England Revolution forward Taylor Twellman, whose career was cut short by head injuries, expressed his frustration with the perceived lack of timely medical oversight.

“Can’t make it up,” Twellman noted on Twitter.

Savage was allowed to go back into the game for a series, but was later removed. Eventually, he was ruled out with a concussion.

Twellman’s own career as a professional soccer player ended due to the lingering effects of post- concussion syndrome. Since then, he started ThinkTaylor, a charitable organization designed to raise awareness and change in regards to traumatic brain injuries.
