After blowing a 25-point, third-quarter lead to New England in Super Bowl LI, the Atlanta Falcons were subject to a barrage of 28-3 jokes.

And one that apparently stung was Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s decision to include 283 diamonds in the team’s championship rings.

“I said to Robert, ‘You didn’t have to do the 28-3 in the ring.'” Falcons owner Arthur Blank recently told Mark Leibovich of The New York Times, speaking about an August conversation in New York City. “It kind of pissed me off.”

Each Patriots’ celebratory ring had 283 total diamonds and a carat weight of 5.1, giving it the highest stone count — and making it the heaviest — in league history.
