Former Denver Broncos and University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is engaged.
The 31-year-old Heisman Trophy winner announced his engagement on Instagram to 23-year-old Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, a South Africa native and the 2017 Miss Universe.
Tebow quarterbacked Florida to national championships during the 2006 and 2008 seasons; he continues to serve as an analyst for the SEC Network as he pursues a baseball career. He was drafted in 2010 by the Denver Broncos, where he played two seasons, and spent 2012 with the New York Jets.
He failed to make the Patriots as a third-string quarterback in 2013, cut at the end of training camp after completing fewer than 40 percent of his passes in three exhibition games. Tebow similarly failed to make the Eagles in 2015, then signed a minor-league contract with the New York Mets a year later.
An all-state player in high school, Tebow played 84 games at Double-A Binghamton (N.Y.) last season, posting a career best .734 OPS. New Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen — a former agent who once represented Tebow — declared last month that the lightning rod is “one step away” from reaching the majors.
