Wellesley’s Matt D’Anieri prevented a potential upset from Newton North with a late game goal, forcing a 1-1 tie in a Tuesday afternoon game at Newton North high school.
It looked like the Tigers were going to walk away with a win against the No. 8 team until the sophomore scored off a rebound with 17 seconds left in the game.
According to Mason, it wasn’t the prettiest game for D’Anieri, however his tireless effort through adversity was an example for the team.
“He’s got great resolve, great character,” Mason said. “We kept working, kept pressing, didn’t give up, and just kept going and it paid off.” Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
