Fueled by a smothering defense that held visiting Latin Academy to 2 points in the second quarter, the O’Bryant girls’ basketball team cruised to a 50-22 Boston City League Central victory Wednesday night.

“O’Bryant is known for defense,” said Tigers coach Gertrude Fisher. “That’s our specialty.”

O’Bryant’s defense has been solid this season. The Tigers held a 4-1 record heading into Wednesday’s matchup and had just defeated West Roxbury, 59-8, Tuesday night.

But successful teams do not rely solely on defense, and the Tigers pack a 1-2 punch of a strong defense and an equally potent offense.

O’Bryant senior Raven Kelsey scored a game-high 20 points and fired up the home crowd with two 3-pointers. Senior guard Yonetta Harris finished with 9 points and senior guard/forward Saran Kaba added 6.
