To be the first team to take down undefeated No. 4 Lynn English, Salem boys’ basketball coach Tom Doyle and his players knew they’d have to beat the Bulldogs at their own game.
“We knew we wanted to slow them down and keep them off the glass,” Doyle said. “Those were the two keys tonight.”
Keep them off the glass they did, with several veteran Salem (6-1) players racking up rebound totals in the double digits at Lynn English (6-1) in a 74-69 win Wednesday night.
Senior David Kazadi ended the night with 17 rebounds, senior Rashad Keys with 13, and junior Bryan Martinez-Rodriguez had an additional 10 rebounds.
“Rebounds were huge for us tonight,” Doyle said. “It’s one of their strengths and we really stepped up to compete.” Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
