There are not many coaches who can lead their team into the building of a league rival, emerge victorious, and walk off to cheers and adulation.
Then again, in the long, storied history of high school hockey in Massachusetts, there have been few coaches like Dan Shine, who now finds himself in the most rarified of coaching circles.
The longtime Arlington Catholic hockey coach — in his 36th season as coach of the Cougars — logged another career milestone Wednesday evening, joining the distinguished 500-win club with a 5-2 win over Archbishop Williams at the Canton Sportsplex.
“I’m glad its over,” Shine said with a grin, acknowledging the milestone was looming for nearly three weeks. “I’m glad we can move on.
