After a fast-paced first half, Catholic Memorial entered intermission nursing a narrow 38-32 lead over St. John’s Prep. The top-ranked Knights got it together in the second half, blowing out the eighth-ranked Eagles, 76-54, and clinching the Catholic Conference title Friday night in Danvers.
“We haven’t been starting second halves well lately, so we were trying go out, especially in an important game like this, and send a message that we wanted it,” senior captain Guilien Smith said. ”We saw they were tired. We just got to keep running. Like we do in practice, we just have to keep running.”
Smith led a balanced effort with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists. Senior Gerard Adams made all seven of his field goal attempts for 14 points, while sophomore Brandon Twitty also added 14.
