CJ McCarthy sets North Reading record for rushing yards in a season in win over Lynnfield

NORTH READING — North Reading made sure the 55th annual Thanksgiving game played against Lynnfield didn’t end like last season.

Behind a potent rushing attack spearheaded by senior CJ McCarthy, North Reading defeated Lynnfield, 42-35, Thursday at Kenney Field.

McCarthy, who leads Eastern Mass. with 200 points, scored five touchdowns and has 15 TDs in the past three games.

McCarthy entered needing 131 yards to break the school record for rushing yards in a season. By intermission, he already had 142 yards to surpass Carl Lipani’s record of 1,776 yards, set last year. McCarthy finished with 280 yards and four rushing TDs on 47 carries, ending his high school career with 1,926 rushing yards.
