Brad Friedel accomplished a great deal during his career as a goalkeeper for the US national team and several club teams.

But the Revolution head coach was surprised Thursday morning at Gillette Stadium when his former teammate, Tab Ramos, announced that Friedel would be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Frisco, Texas, in October as part of the Class of 2018.

Friedel, 47, made 82 appearances on the US team over 13 years and was on the squad that advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals in 2002. During his 17-year club career, the Ohio native played for English Premier League powers Liverpool, Blackburn, Aston Villa, and Tottenham, setting an EPL record with 310 consecutive starts.
