Tom Brady is playing in another Super Bowl, and we certainly know he’ll have fans in Tampa Bay and New England in his corner.
As nearly anyone who’s followed Brady’s career knows though, the Buccaneers’ quarterback will certainly have people rooting against him in Super Bowl LV that aren’t Chiefs fans.
In a recent study done by BetOnline, the online sportsbook found that Indiana is the state that “hates” Brady the most. BetOnline conducted its study of finding which states “hate” Brady the most by using geotagged Twitter data, tracking tweets, phrases, and hashtags of over 100,000 tweets in the past month, according to a press release. Phrases and hashtags such as “I hate Tom Brady,” “I hate Brady,” and “#ihatetombrady” in tweets were cited as examples used in the data.
It’s understandable to think why the Hoosier State, home to the Colts, “hates” Brady the most. Longtime Colts quarterback Peyton Manning had a longtime rivalry with Brady, and while the two don’t hate each other, they’ve had their fair share of intense battles over the years. In Manning’s 14 years with the Colts, Brady got the best of him eight times in 12 matchups. Brady later defeated Manning three more times in five matchups when Manning was with the Broncos.
Wisconsin comes in second place for the state that “hates” Brady the most. With the data being tracked during the NFL Playoffs, Wisconsin fans’ distaste for Brady was likely at a record high. Brady’s Buccaneers went into Wisconsin to defeat the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game, likely resulting in Brady getting unfavorable ratings in the Badger State.
Utah ranks third in the states that “hate” Brady the most. Utah’s inclusion on the list, let alone being this high, is interesting as the state doesn’t have an NFL team and Brady has doesn’t have any known connection to the state.
The other notable state on the top 10 list of states that “hate” Brady the most is New Jersey, which ranks fifth. Football fans in the Garden State, which is home to the Jets and Giants, certainly have their reasons to dislike Brady. The Jets were Brady’s longtime division rival during his years with the Patriots and the Giants went head-to-head with Brady in two Super Bowls.
With Philadelphia’s close proximity to the state, there are also a fair share of Eagles fans that live in New Jersey. Brady and the Patriots went up against the Eagles twice in the Super Bowl, with the Patriots winning Super Bowl XXXIX and the Eagles getting their revenge in Super Bowl LII.
Here’s the full top 10 list of the states that “hate” Tom Brady the most:
