Bill Buckner made some headlines last week after saying he would have considered using steroids, but that wasn’t the most ridiculous thing to come out of his mouth.
Speaking at an old timers dinner in Illinois, the conversation obviously shifted to Game 6 and the former Red Sox first baseman’s famous error on Mookie Wilson’s ground ball in the 1986 World Series against the New York Mets. Buckner’s first thought after it happened?
“My first thought when it happened was, ‘Wow, I get to play in a seventh game of a World Series. How cool is that? And my other thought was how bad the people in Chicago must feel, Boston being here and their team not.”
Yeah, those poor Chicago fans. Cool.
