Police used tear-gas grenades against protesters outside a World Cup stadium in Sao Paulo, Brazil, hours before the start of the first World Cup match.
CNN reported that reporter Shasta Darlington and producer Barbara Arvanitidis suffered minor injuries after being hit by a tear gas canister.
Protests are centered on the amount of money spent preparing for the tournament and building stadiums (estimated at $11 billion.) That money, protesters say, could have been used on social programs for the poor.
The World Bank estimates that nearly 16 percent of Brazil lives in poverty.
