Fall and winter are by far the best time of the year for shopping. Why? Because that’s when all the best and biggest sales of the year are, from Black Friday to the After Christmas sales. But, as always, timing is of the essence. If you want to get the best deal, you need to know when the sales are, and which one to shop in to get the most off the item you want. So grab your diary, and let us take you on a whirlwind tour of fall and winter 2020’s best saving opportunities.

Thanksgiving sales: November 26

There aren’t actually that many ‘Thanksgiving sales’ out there. But there are plenty of Black Friday sales that start early, kicking off on the evening of Thanksgiving itself (November 26, 2020). And, as far as we can tell, Americans make full use of these quick-off-the-mark Black Friday deals, spending $4.2 billion on the day of Thanksgiving last year. The top purchases were Apple AirPods, Samsung TVs, and Frozen merchandise, and the best places to buy them were:

  • Walmart: who kick off their Thanksgiving sale at 10pm on Wednesday 25 November.
  • Target: who are spreading out their Thanksgiving sales across October.
  • Macy’s: who are starting their Thanksgiving deals on 24 November this year.

Black Friday sales: November 21-28

This year, Black Friday will be a little different. Although there’ll still be plenty of Black Friday deals, most stores are spreading their offers out over more days (with some starting as early as November 19) to avoid crowding or rushes in store. As usual, the biggest offers will be on TVs, phones, computers, kitchen appliances, and furniture, with savings of hundreds of dollars across the piece. The best places to shop are:

    • Best Buy: in 2019, they knocked $500 off an LG OLED TV, and $300 off the Galaxy S10e.
    • Kohl’s: with their legendary doorbusters, you can expect to save between 60 and 70% sitewide at Kohl’s.
    • Home Depot: expect 50% off indoor furniture and $800+ off refrigerators.
    • Nike: get ready for up to 50% off sitewide, with an additional 25% off sales items on the cards.

Cyber Monday sales: November 30

The tech-focused little brother of Black Friday, Cyber Monday is the moment to pick up all the electronics you’ve been wanting that you didn’t manage to grab on Black Friday. Although focused on the Monday after Thanksgiving, most Cyber deals now last through the week. In terms of what to buy, you’ll find the best deals on 4k TVs, iPads and games consoles, including the PS4 and Xbox. And, if you’re wondering where to look, here’s our top four:

  • Abt Electronics: who have offered up to $1,200 off certain items in the past.
  • eBay: where you can expect 40-70% off TVs, computers and home appliances.
  • Best Buy: who slashed $150 off headphones and Chromebooks last year.
  • Amazon: expect 40% off cameras, 30% off headphones, and up to $100 off PS4 Pros.

Travel Tuesday sales: December 1

Hot on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes Travel Tuesday (December 1) – the travel industry’s very own mega sale. We’d expect between 20 and 40% off all domestic and international flights if last year is anything to go by. The best places to look are:

  • Priceline: where you can expect flash sales every 2 hours with up to 50% off.
  • Groupon: expect up to 70% off Groupon Getaways.
  • Hotwire: who have slashed up to 83% off hotels in previous years

Holiday Season sales: December 1-31

The Holiday Season sales start immediately after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, with the deals lasting through the festive month. In fact, the best deals are usually found immediately between Christmas and New Years Eve, in the after-Christmas sales. In that period, you can expect to find everything from gift baskets to new TVs discounted, with reductions of up to 70% off. Our favorite places to go are:

  • Sephora: who typically slash 20% off items already in the sale in their after Christmas sale.
  • Bed Bath and Beyond: where you can expect to get 50% off in their holiday clearance.
  • Walmart: which typically has a 50% sitewide clearance after the big day.
  • Target: who normally offer 70% sitewide between Christmas and New Year.

Hopefully, this has given you plenty of food for thought about when and where to pick up your fall and winter bargains. Happy shopping!
