Born in Boston in 1948 and raised on Mission Hill, Donna Summer went on to become a worldwide legend, with chart-smashing hits throughout her career.
“Summer: The Donna Summer Musical,” released to cult hit status on Broadway, now heads out on tour and follows the life and rise to fame of the “Queen of Disco.”
Known professionally as Donna Summer, LaDonna Gaines was inspired by the counterculture of the ‘60s, and started her career as the lead singer of a psychedelic rock band called Crow.
After stints in musical theater in Germany and Austria, like a role in the musical “Hair,” Summer began recording music in the ‘70s to international acclaim, returning to the States and claiming her place as the “Queen of Disco.”
She released 14 Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits in her lifetime, and remains one of the best-selling music artists of all time. She died in 2012 of lung cancer and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
The dazzling musical comes to Boston for two weeks this winter. Tickets are currently on sale.
