Need a good dose of holiday spirit, New England style? Then head to the lobster trap tree lighting in Cape Porpoise, called one of the most unique Christmas “trees” in America, during Kennebunkport’s 40th Annual Christmas Prelude. Visitors can also listen to Christmas carols sung by school choirs, watch a traditional tree lighting on Dock Square, and see Santa arrive by lobster boat on the Kennebunk River. Guests can get their holiday shopping done at a variety of gift shops, which sell everything from clothing to crafts to jewelry to antiques. When hunger strikes, there are plenty of restaurants, cafes, breweries, and tasting rooms in the area, where guests can eat chowder, lobster rolls, and sip festive drinks. Revelers can also design a holiday hat to compete for a prize in the 16th Annual Hat Parade. Organizers say plans could be adapted as state and local COVID-19 protocols change, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the event website.
