James Beard Foundation’s Taste America dinner series visits a unique Boston restaurant

Brassica Kitchen in Jamaica Plain hosts the illustrious organization after its award nomination.

Brassica Kitchen hosts a James Beard Foundation dinner in September.

The quirky Brassica Kitchen has long been a reason for locals to ride the Orange Line ’til the last stop. With eclectic, deeply flavored small plates and cocktails by night — often employing house-fermented ingredients — and an excellent weekend brunch, Brassica has earned local and national acclaim. The destination’s most recent accolades are among among the most prestigious culinary awards in the industry: Brassica Kitchen co-chefs and creators Jeremy Kean and Philip Kruta shared a nod for Best Chef: Northeast from the James Beard Foundation.

Beyond awards season, the foundation also hosts some of the most exciting dining events in the country, such as the Taste America series. These dinners bring together chefs, special guests, and diners across the country to celebrate independent restaurants at the heart of their communities.

On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the Taste America tour stops at Brassica. The intimate event will have a multi-course menu by Kean, Kruta, and Angel Barreto, of Anju in Washington, D.C. The dishes will reflect the chefs’ signature styles, and beverage pairings are included for each course. Stay tuned for a preview of the menu.

There are seating times at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. for Taste America: Boston, with options at Brassica both inside and outside. Tickets are $300, and reservations are required.
