Kennebunkport, Maine’s Hidden Pond resort is, indeed, hidden: The 60-acre New England getaway is tucked inside a birch forest, and its hand-painted wooden signs give it a “fantasy summer camp feel,” according to Conde Nast Traveler.
In the travel magazine’s 30th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards, the resort ranked seventh among the 10 best resorts in the U.S., and was the only New England resort to make the list. (The No. 1 spot went to The Lodge and Spa at Brush Creek Ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming.)
At Hidden Pond, guests can choose between 36 one- and two-bedroom cottages, complete with “generous kitchens, cozy porches, and gas fireplaces,” according to the publication. The decor of the cottages ranges from playful to classic, wrote editors, and guests have access to a pick-your-own vegetable garden and a shed full of retro bicycles perfect for pedaling to nearby Goose Rocks Beach. The publication also made mention of the hot coffee and canvas bag full of fresh pastries delivered to guests each morning.
Hidden Pond also came in at No. 42 on the list of the 50 best resorts in the world, once again the only New England resort to make the list.
Editors compiled the readers’ choice lists based on the results of an online survey available to CNT readers between April 1 and July 1, 2017. The survey contained more than 30,000 listings of hotels, resorts, islands, airports, cities, and cruise ships. More than 300,000 readers submitted millions of ratings and more than 100,000 comments, according to the publication.
