Providence, Rhode Island’s Alex and Ani City Center recently welcomed a new addition to its skating rink: on-ice bumper cars.

The bumper cars are the first of their kind in New England and the third of their kind in the U.S., according to the rink. Providence is also the first to bring the cars to an outdoor venue. Joysticks allow users to move backward, forward, and rotate a full 360 degrees.

Riders have the option to scoot around when the rink is also open to skaters (Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), or wait until later at night when the bumper cars have the ice all to themselves (Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 p.m. to midnight).

Tickets, which can be purchased at the rink’s ticket office, are $12 for a 20-minute session.

Children ages 3-5 can ride for free, but must be accompanied by someone 16 years of age or older. Riders must be at least 42 inches tall and 6 years old to operate their own bumper cars.
