Just in time for all of your apple-picking needs, a 60-acre, family-owned farm near Lake Champlain in Vermont was named among the best apple orchards in America by USA Today readers.
Shelburne Orchards in Shelburne, Vt. ranked No. 8 on a list of the 10 best apple orchards in the country, released Friday as part of USA Today’s 2018 10Best Reader’s Choice Awards. The No. 1 apple orchard in the land was Kiyokawa Family Orchards in Parkdale, Ore.
“What started as 500 trees in the 1950s is now an orchard of some 6,000 trees, and 90 percent of the apples grown — more than 30 varieties — are sold on the farm,” the publication wrote about Shelburne Orchards. “Visitors can also purchase cider donuts, cider vinegar and apple brandy.”
For the 10Best Reader’s Choice Awards lists, USA Today travel experts select 20 nominees in topics that range from food to lodging, destinations to things to do, and then ask readers to cast votes to determine the top 10.
