Skiers and snowboarders looking for the quintessential ski town this winter should head to Maine, according to USA Today readers.
Bethel, Maine was named the best ski town in North America by USA Today on Friday, when the publication revealed the best ski resorts and amenities in North America, as voted on by readers. What’s more, USA Today readers named North Conway, N.H. the second-best ski town in North America. Stowe, Vermont also made the list, ranking No. 7.
“Visitors staying in Bethel enjoy easy access to Sunday River, home to some of the best snow conditions in the East,” wrote USA Today about Bethel, Maine. “Head to the Foggy Goggle or Matterhorn for a lively après-ski scene, or try out one of the many restaurants dotting the streets of this cute New England village.”
“Nestled within the scenic White Mountains of New Hampshire, North Conway sits within a half-hour drive of more than a dozen alpine and Nordic ski resorts,” wrote USA Today about North Conway. “Visitors off the slopes can explore the town’s pastel-hued Victorian architecture oozing New England charm. The Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center makes for an excellent rest-day diversion.”
Other winners on the New England ski scene: the Wobbly Barn in Killington, Vermont ranked No. 4 for best apres-ski bars (Double Diamonds Bar in Steamboat Springs, Colo. took first place); Stowe Mountain Resort in Stowe, Vermont ranked No. 9 for best ski resort (Winter Park Resort in Winter Park, Colo. was the winner); and Great Glen Trails in Gorham, N.H. snagged the No. 10 spot for best cross-country ski resort (Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Tabernash, Colo. ranked first).
