In N.H., a Stanley Cup conundrum

WASHINGTON – New Hampshire residents will have two of their beloved passions pitted against one another on Monday night: hockey, and presidential politics.

The Boston Bruins are scheduled to play the Vancouver Canucks in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final at 8 p.m. If the Bruins win Game 5 tonight, the Monday game would offer them the chance to win their first title since 1972.

But at the same time as they are taking the ice in Boston, seven presidential hopefuls will be taking the stage at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H.

It will be the first major debate of the Republican nominating contest, in a state that cherishes its role evaluating future Oval Office occupants.

But while the presidential debate may include a few barbs here and there, it’s safe to say there won’t be any hip-checking or spin-room clearing brawls.

That means political junkies in the Granite State will have to make some choices.
