A young girl suffered a serious injury to her leg, and five other people received minor injuries in a crash involving three cars and a school bus on Route 2 in Lincoln this afternoon, police said.
At about 3:45 p.m., a pickup truck swerved into the right lane of Route 2 near Bedford Road, striking an SUV. The SUV hit a bus containing campers from the nearby Fenn School. The bus then struck another car, State Police said in a statement.
Lincoln Police Sergeant Sean Kennedy said all nine students on the bus, who ranged from fourth to ninth grade, were uninjured, but they were taken to Emerson Hospital for precautionary reasons.
“They weren’t injured but since they were all minors, they were transported in another school bus to the hospital,’’ he said in a brief telephone interview.
State Police said the two adults in the bus were also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
An adult and three children in the SUV received minor injuries and a fifth occupant, a young girl, suffered a serious injury to her lower leg, State Police said. No further information on her condition was immediately available.
The driver of the pickup also received minor injuries; the driver of the fourth vehicle was uninjured.
Police said the crash is under investigation and the driver of the pickup may face several motor vehicle charges.
For an hour after the accident, traffic remained backed up on Route 2, Kennedy said.
