Ben & Jerry’s, the righteous ice cream brand with Vermont roots, said it has dispatched one of its scoop trucks to the Boston area, where it will give away free samples for most of the month.
Through Aug. 28, plans call for a Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Truck to attend community events and visit nonprofits.
Here’s where Twitter comes in. According to the company, locals can tweet their whereabouts, and the scoop truck’s navigator will consider using those suggestions when plotting additional stops on the scoop truck’s itinerary. Scoop truck personnel are equipped with smartphones that can monitor Twitter feeds, according to a company spokesman.
Suggestions on where the truck goes can be made by Tweeting @BenJerrysTruck, the company said.
Among the flavors on the Ben & Jerry’s giveaway menu is Bonnaroo Buzz, which the company describes as “light coffee and malt ice creams with whiskey caramel swirls and English toffee pieces.’’
Another flavor on the scoop truck is Late Night Snack, which was inspired by the TV show “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.’’ Ingredients include vanilla bean ice cream as well as potato chip clusters covered with a salty caramel swirl and fudge.
