Nearly six weeks after fugitive James “Whitey’’ Bulger and his girlfriend, Catherine Greig, were arrested in Santa Monica, Calif., the US Marshals Service released their booking photos today.
It is the first official release of the photos, though some copies had been unofficially released earlier.
Recent photos of the couple have been rare because cameras are not allowed in federal court, where the two have made appearances since their arrests.
The 81-year-old Bulger, who had been on the run for 16 years, is being held at the Plymouth County House of Correction on charges in 19 murders.
His 60-year-old girlfriend is being held at a jail in Rhode Island on charges of harboring a fugitive for allegedly going on the run with him.
Also today, Magistrate Judge Marianne B. Bowler granted a routine request by federal prosecutors to give them more time to provide Bulger’s defense attorney with discovery in the case, a request supported by Bulger attorney J.W. Carney Jr.
