Three-year-old Weymouth boy dies while trying to nap

A 3-year-old boy from Weymouth died Thursday after what appeared to be an accident while he was napping at his home in the Tammy Brook Apartments, according to Norfolk prosecutors.

The death does not appear to be suspicious, but is still under investigation, the district attorney’s office said. The child was unattended in his room while taking a nap, but there was an adult in the home, district attorney’s spokesman David Traub said.

The boy was taken to South Shore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Traub said.

The district attorney is set to receive results today from a medical examination to confirm the death was an accident. Further details concerning the death were not released, Traub said.

State Police attached to the DA’s office and the State Police Crime Scene Services unit, along with Weymouth police, were called to the scene on King Avenue.

Residents standing outside the apartment Thursday night were very upset and shocked by the death. They said the family was not yet ready for comment.
