Globe writer talks annoyance on the Today Show

Globe correspondent Karen Weintraub appeared on the Today Show this morning, talking about the little-studied topic of why we get annoyed.

Weintraub, a long-time Globe staffer and now a freelancer, wrote last month about a new book by science journalist Joe Palca, called “Annoying: The Science of What Bugs Us.’’ She talked with researchers about the evolutionary roots of why we cringe at nails on a chalkboard. Turns out our annoyance may be linked to the behaviors of that very annoying creature, the fruit fly.
