The Plymouth County District Attorney’s office is investigating the death of an infant found in a Marshfield apartment early Friday afternoon, authorities said.
Results of an autopsy being performed by the state medical examiner’s office are pending, said Bridget Norton Middleton, spokeswoman for District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.
“At this point, we are awaiting autopsy results so that we can determine the cause of death,’’ she said during a telephone interview this morning.
Middleton said emergency personnel responded to a call for assistance of a baby “approximately 6 months old,’’ at about 12:20 p.m. on Friday.
She declined to give the baby’s name, the family, or the address in Marshfield.
Marshfield police would not comment on the case, referring all inquiries to the district attorney’s office.
The baby was found at the Castle Green Condominiums, located off School Street, according to authorities.
Marshfield town property records show the complex is managed by The Dartmouth Group of Bedford.
A call to the company was not immediately returned today.
The state Department of Children and Families is conducting an investigation. Other children in the home have been placed into the agency’s care, according to a spokeswoman.
“We have been and will continue to work with the family to provide supportive services during this difficult time,’’ spokeswoman Cayenne Isaksen wrote in a statement to the Globe.
