The New England Healthcare Institute held its annual Innovators in Health Awards dinner at the Hotel Marlowe and honoree Dean Kamen was dressed, as always, in denim. Kamen, who hails from New Hampshire, has 440 patents to his name, including the first insulin pump, a portable dialysis machine, and the Segway. Also honored were Mayor Tom Menino and Dr. Donald Berwick, co-founder of the Cambridge-based Institute for Healthcare Improvement and President Obama’s administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
