Memorial Drive fire injures one Cambridge firefighter

A Cambridge firefighter received minor injuries this morning while working to control a fire on Memorial Drive.

The fire department was notified at 8:17 a.m. that there were flames on the roof of 565 Memorial Drive, a building owned by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said Deputy Fire Chief Gerry Mahoney.

Firefighters soon put out the fire, Mahoney said, but one firefighter did receive injuries that were not life-threatening while keeping the blaze under control.

From his understanding, Mahoney said, this firefighter had been “quite instrumental’’ to keeping the fire in check.

Fire units are still on the scene.
