A woman who was arrested for the attempted armed robbery of a Newton gas station this afternoon may be behind two similar robberies that occurred on Christmas Day, according to police.
Chelsea Ingalls, 27, was arrested by Framingham police around 5 p.m. at her home on Village West Road in Framingham after a suspect with a knife tried to rob the Newtonville Sunoco gas station, police said.
Earlier this month, she had been arrested by Boston police and charged with two counts of larceny for allegedly stealing two purses from women at a Dec. 17 Boston Pops concert at Symphony Hall, according to authorities.
On Sunday, the CVS on Route 9 in Framingham was robbed around 7 p.m. A few minutes later down the highway in Wellesley, the West Side Mobil station was robbed.
In those crimes, police said, the suspect entered the store brandishing a knife and demanded money.
The suspect, described as wearing dark clothing and a scarf concealing the face. She allegedly took money from the cash register, then fled in a Toyota RAV4.
“It appears that she’s connected to all three of them,’’ Framingham Police Lieutenant Ronald Brandolini said.
In the Newton robbery today, Newton police said, a 5-foot-6 white female with black hair asked the gas station cashier to make change, then pulled out a knife and demanded money.
The cashier then pushed the robber backward, police said. The suspect, described as wearing dark clothing, a black hat, and sunglasses, fled in a red SUV, and the cashier was able to record the license plate and pass it on to police, Newton police said.
No money was stolen from the gas station.
“She didn’t walk out with anything. It was more like an attempt,’’ Brandolini said.
Ingalls is also being charged with possession of heroin, according to Brandolini.
He said police found heroin while searching Ingalls during the booking process and found a knife in her car.
Brandolini said Ingalls will be arraigned this morning at Framingham District Court on three counts of armed assault with intent to rob, as well as the heroin charge.
It is unknown how much money was taken from the Wellesley gas station and the Framingham CVS, Framingham police said.
