Warner Bros. has released a still from “Argo,’’ the latest project directed by — and starring — our own Ben Affleck. The movie, which is based on a true story, features Ben as Tony Mendez, a CIA operative who in 1979 helped free American hostages in Tehran by convincing Iran that the captives were actually a Canadian film crew. The name of the fake movie they were supposedly working on was — you guessed it — “Argo.’’ The famous story has been told on screen before; in 1981, it was a TV movie called “Escape from Iran: The Canadian Caper’’ starring Gordon Pinsent as Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Ben’s version of the tale, which is being produced by George Clooney, will be released in September.
