A 24-year-old Harwich woman is facing drug and child endangerment charges for allegedly transporting more than 400 bags of heroin in a car with her 3-year-old son, Brewster police said.
Ashley B. Rufo is facing charges of possession with intent to distribute a class A substance, conspiracy to violate drug laws, and wantonly or recklessly creating risk to a child, police said.
Rufo and two men also riding in the car were arrested at about 5 p.m. Wednesday as a result of a three-month investigation by Brewster police and the Cape Cod Drug Task Force, Brewster police said.
“Acting on information that the suspects may be transporting a quantity of heroin, police stopped the vehicle in question,’’ Brewster police said in a statement. “After conducting a search, police located 450 bags of heroin, which is approximately 10 grams of heroin with a street value of $3,000.’’
The two men in the car, John K. Hurst, 23, of Brewster, and Adam R. Larsen, 24, of Eastham, were also arrested, police said. Both men face charges of possession with intent to distribute a class A substance and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Police said Larsen’s Wednesday arrest was at least his second for possession with intent to distribute a class A substance.
Rufo’s child was placed in the care of a family member, police said.
